Synopsis:
The film starts at an orphanage in London, England. Little Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) is awake at what she calls “the witching hour”, which is when the boogeyman shows up. She looks out a window and sees four men drunkenly fooling around in the streets. Sophie yells at them and threatens to calls the cops on them.

Sophie walks back toward her bed and hears another sound from a different window. She sees cats running through the trash and knocking over a bin. A very large hand picks the bin up. Sophie sees a giant man (Mark Rylance) walking by. She gasps, and he hears her. The giant sticks his hand in the window and picks Sophie out of her bed. He sneaks through the streets undetected and runs all the way back to his home in Giant Country.

The giant (called the Big Friendly Giant of BFG for short) drops Sophie onto a table while he starts to chop up a gross-looking vegetable called a snozzcumber. Sophie thinks the BFG is going to eat her, but he says he doesn’t eat children or people. BFG says he took Sophie to keep her from spreading word of a giant sighting for fear that the humans may hunt him down. BFG also speaks with an unusual vocabulary (his “right and wrong” is “right and left”, for example). After Sophie understands that he is non-threatening, BFG reads her a book and she falls asleep. He then goes to his collection of dreams that he’s captured in jars.

Sophie dreams that she has been taken by an even bigger giant that eats her while BFG stands in the distance, unable to do anything. When she wakes up, BFG explains that he gave her the dream. BFG drinks a fizzy green drink called frobscottle, which has bubbles going down instead of up. It also causes “whizpoppers” (literally explosive farts). Moments later, the same giant from Sophie’s dream, Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement), enters BFG’s home. He and the other far taller giants frequently taunt BFG and call him “runt” since he is significantly smaller compared to the rest. Sophie hides in the snozzcumber, which Fleshlumpeater picks up. He nearly takes a bite until BFG reminds him he hates vegetables. Fleshlumpeater takes the frobscottle and leaves.

BFG takes the goo-covered Sophie to clean herself. He gives her some spares clothes from a pile for her to put on. She puts on a red coat that belonged to another child that BFG had befriended until he was eaten by one of the other giants. BFG then shows Sophie all the types of dreams he has collected.

BFG prepares to take Sophie to the hill where he collects dreams, but he has to pass Fleshlumpeater and his band of giant goons as they sleep. BFG and Sophie sneak away, but BFG is caught by one of the giants. Sophie hides inside a truck. The giants begin tossing BFG around like a football. They stop when it starts raining, as they are terrified of it. Sophie unintentionally leaves a blanket behind, which Fleshlumpeater finds and sniffs, knowing there’s a human around.

BFG and Sophie make it to the hill. They jump into a lake that brings them into the realm of dreams. One particular dream whizzes by BFG, and he cannot catch it. Sophie manages to get it, and BFG says it is her dream.

The two go into London so BFG can demonstrate how he gives people dreams. BFG puts a dream into his trumpet and gives a boy a dream where he receives a phone call from the U.S. president.

When BFG realizes Sophie’s blanket was most likely found by the other giants, he feels it’s no longer safe for her to stay with him since other children that he took care of were eventually taken and eaten by Fleshlumpeater and his friends. BFG returns Sophie to the orphanage. At night, she calls to him. He hears her and decides to bring her back.

The giants all burst into BFG’s home and begin trashing the place, letting his dreams run loose as they break things. BFG has had enough, and he scares them away with fire and water.

Sophie comes up with an idea when she sees a portrait of Queen Elizabeth (Penelope Wilton) in BFG’s home. Together, they concoct a nightmare where the giants are taking and eating children, whereupon the Queen will meet Sophie as she sits on the windowsill. After the dream is made up, the two head to Buckingham Palace and place the dream in the Queen’s head. She has the nightmare and wakes up, alerting her maid Mary (Rebecca Hall) and butler Mr. Tibbs (Rafe Spall). As the Queen describes the dream, Mary sees a newspaper headline mentioning the disappearance of children in London. Sophie then makes her presence known to the three of them at the window. Since the Queen has already seen this in her dream, she allows it and then realizes Sophie is with BFG. Sophie calls for him, but he is afraid to come out. Mr. Tibbs calls the royal guards out as BFG steps out. The Queen orders Tibbs to have them stand down, which they do. Sophie formally introduces everyone to BFG, and she tells the Queen they need her help.

The Queen has her staff prepare a meal for Sophie and BFG. BFG is elated to eat something other than snozzcumbers for once. The Queen brings in her soldiers after Sophie explains that the giants in her dream are real and that they are indeed taking children. The plan is to head into Giant Country and capture the villainous giants. BFG then pours a few glasses of frobscottle for the Queen, Tibbs, some staff members, and even the dogs. Explosive farts follow.

BFG and Sophie wait for the giants to be asleep so they can plant nightmares into their heads. However, BFG left his trumpet behind. Sophie runs into the field with a jar of nightmares and lets them fly into the giants’ mouths. Only Fleshlumpeater isn’t affected. He prepares to attack, but the soldiers arrive in time and capture him and the rest of the giants. They are dropped onto a remote island where they are forced to eat nothing but snozzcumbers for the rest of their days.

In the end, Sophie finds a home in the Queen’s palace under Mary’s care. She narrates on a dream she says she had where she saw BFG’s home, which now has a garden where he grows better vegetables (and still a few snozzcumbers). She opens the window and calls out, “Good morning, BFG!” In his home, he hears her and he smiles.

Review:
Big Indian interest? Frieda Pinto. As the virgin oracle who gets maximum screen time amongst the female cast, this should have been reason enough for Indians to claim the film as their own. More importantly, the fact that she chooses to give up her celestial status for more earthly pleasures and falls in love with the brawny peasant leader,
Theseus, should have added adequate spice to the proceedings. But the problem with Immortals is its garbled screenplay, its lacklustre, almost lifeless action cuts, making the film end up as a pale shadow of the mesmerising 300. Heavily imbued with mythology, the film fails to connect. And the fact that Frieda pitches in a frozen act makes you feel miserable. The only actor who breathes life on screen is the wicked, crooked Mickey Rourke.
Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares (Daniel Sharman). Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the King’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion, until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus (Luke Evans), Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders, including visionary Priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff), one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.

Spoilers
The synopsis below may give away important plot points.
Synopsis
When the world was young, the gods did battle in the sky. The victors ruled on Mt. Olympus and imprisoned the vanquished — the Titans — beneath Mt. Tartarus on Earth. Also lost during the battle is the Bow of Epirus, a mighty weapon that can shoot invincible energy arrows.

Centuries later, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) mounts a campaign to recover the Bow of Epirus and free the Titans. Bitter over the deaths of his wife and children due to disease, he is resolved to destroy the gods who refused his prayers to spare his family. He overtakes the Sybelline Monastery, imprisoning the virgin oracle Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and her attendants, then lays waste to villages in the area. In one village works the stone mason Theseus (Henry Cavil). Theseus has been trained in the military arts by a mysterious Old Man (John Hurt) who encourages him to be a protector of all humanity; Theseus, whose devout mother was raped and thus considered an outcast, refuses. When the goddess Athena (Isabel Lucas) visits the Old Man, he is revealed to be Zeus (Luke Evans) in human disguise.

When Hyperion’s forces destroy Theseus’s village, he kills Theseus’s mother in front of him and imprisons Theseus, where Phaedra and her attendants are also kept. Phaedra inadvertently touches Theseus and has a vision of him as either the savior of humanity or the ally of Hyperion in the destruction of the world. That night, she and her attendants seduce and kill the guards; Phaedra escapes with Theseus and two other slaves, Stavros (Steven Dorff) and Daerios (Alan Van Spring).

Although Zeus has forbidden the gods to intervene unless the Titans are freed, Athena, Poseidon (Kellan Lutz) and Ares (Daniel Sharman) determine to protect Theseus as best they can. Phaedra tells Theseus he must return to his village and properly bury his mother. There, Theseus discovers the Bow of Epirus. Hyperion has sent the Minotaur (Robert Maillet) and soldiers to intercept them. The soldiers kill Daerios but, after a brutal battle with the Minotaur, Theseus uses the Bow to free the others. That night, Phaedra makes love to Theseus to free herself from her premonitory powers.

The humans make their way to the Sybelline Monastery, where Hyperion has laid another trap. A jackal steals the Bow of Epirus and takes it to Hyperion, but the timely arrival of Athena and Ares saves Thesus, Phaedra and Stavros. This enrages Zeus who kills Ares in punishment but allows Athena to provide horses to Theseus so he can join a last stand against Hyperion’s forces.

As Theseus leads the fight against Hyperions’ army, Hyperion uses the Bow to free the Titans from their prison. This prompts Zeus to intervene, and he, Athena, Poseidon, Heracles and Apollo fight a ferocious battle against the Titans. Theseus confronts Hyperion and, though mortally wounded, finally kills him. The Titans kill all of the gods except Zeus who destroys Mt. Tartarus to contain them again. Zeus takes Athena and Theseus to Olympus with him.

Several years later, Phaedra lives in Theseus’s village with her son, the result of her coupling with Theseus. The Old Man approaches the boy and tells him to prepare for a coming war in heaven. The boy closes his eyes and has a vision of Theseus leading the gods in battle against the resurgent Titans.

— The following is not a plot synopsis, as Tarsem Singh, regardless of his “vision,” is not part of the plot of the film.

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) transports us in this epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and visually spectacular 3D action adventure. As a power-hungry king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.

The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army rampage across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.

As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge his mother, who was killed in one of Hyperion’s brutal raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final, desperate battle for the future of humanity. Immortals is produced by Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter).

Review:
Based on those unavoidable TV ads for “Jack the Giant Slayer” featuring CGI-looking giants clomping around and throwing windmills while a hipster-quipster Jack romances a generic-looking princess, I wasn’t exactly dreading the screening, but I can’t say I had it circled on my calendar, either.

I’m pleased to report, however, “Jack the Giant Slayer” is a rousing, original and thoroughly entertaining adventure. Director Bryan Singer, a first-rate cast and a stellar team of screenwriters, set designers and special-effects wizards have dusted off an old and (let’s face it) never particularly compelling fairy tale and have given us a great-looking thrill ride in which we actually care about a number of characters.

There’s even room for just the hint of empathy for the giants. It’s not easy being a giant. In fact, I have a few questions about the Giant Way of Life, but we’ll get to that later.

“Jack the Giant Slayer” begins with the reading of a legend in two very different homes on the same night. Young Jack, a farm boy about 8 years old, has read the story so many times, the pages on his book have nearly worn away — yet he begs his kindly, widowed father to tell him the tale just one more time.

Meanwhile, behind the walls of the castle Cloister, a princess in waiting eagerly absorbs the same story, read to her by her mother, who, like Jack’s dad, isn’t going to make it past the opening credits of this story.

Cut to 10 years later. Jack has grown up to become Nicholas Hoult, a handsome and almost boringly noble young man now living with his bitter old uncle after the plague took Dad.

Eleanor Tomlinson is Princess Isabelle, who of course is adventurous and romantic and incorrigible, and REALLY wishes she didn’t have to marry the gross, old and obviously duplicitous Roderick (the great Stanley Tucci, hamming it up just shy of a mustache twirl).

It takes a long while — truth to be told, a few scenes past the point of perfect timing — before we get to the magic beans and the stalk that shoots to the sky and the mysterious land above Earth populated entirely by giants. But once we get there, game on.

Especially when seen in close-up, the giants are pretty awesome. They’re a grotesque bunch of louts, picking their noses and passing gas and making pigs in a blanket, which are literally pigs. In blankets.

As usual, the 3-D is mostly about 2.5-D, though we do get a few battle scenes where you want to duck. But over all, the special effects are impressive. It really looks like those little men are battling those giant-ass giants, who are led by a two-headed general, with the invaluable Bill Nighy buried somewhere in there playing the general.

There’s no way you can have a fair fight between giants and people, so there’s a convenient device to level the playing field; a magic crown, forged from ingredients including but not limited to the heart of a long-ago vanquished giant. He who wears the crown has complete command over the giants, and it’s the evil Roderick’s plan to whip out the crown at just the right moment and lead the giants to a conquest of Cloister and all the kingdoms of Earth.

(You’d think Roderick would have been pleased with the deal he already had: marrying the hot young princess, commanding the kingdom and living a cushy live, but there you have it.)

“Jack the Giant Slayer” is filled with neat touches, from the casting of Ewan McGregor as Elmont, a knight in shining armor who’s supposed to be the hero of the story and is indeed A hero, but not THE hero, to an epilogue that’s just flat-out cool. The PG-13 violence, including a close-up of an eyeball popping out of a giant’s face, means the action is a little too intense for very young children. But for everyone else, including cynical grown-up critics who didn’t think they’d ever give a Fee, a Fi, a Fo or a Fum about this movie, it’s a terrific adventure.

Oh, right: the giants. They live in this world between Earth and heaven, and if you’re willing to overlook the scary rock formations and the isolation, it seems like a pretty sweet deal. Lush greenery, room for a giant to roam around, plenty to eat if you can curb your appetite for humans.

What I want to know is, where are the lady giants and the teenage giants and the baby giants? If there are no women, how do these guys not die off? They’re not immortal, because several get killed during this movie.

It would have been kind of neat to meet the wife of a two-headed giant general, just to see what her deal is and how she spends her days. Maybe someday.

After a tumultuous beginning to their relationship, Tessa and Hardin were on the path to making things work.Unlike a few other popular devotional movies in Tamil, the makers of Mookuthi Amman have come up with a different recipe with ingredients added in such a way that it caters to all sections of audience, with elements of fantasy, comedy and emotion in adequate proportion. It also touches upon a few relevant topics which are easily relatable to Tamil audiences.

He has been hardworking for years to expose Bhagavathi Baba (Ajay Ghosh), a self-proclaimed godman, who has become a threat to the environment and people. Ramasamy’s mother has been planning a devotional tour to Tirupathi since several years, but one or the other factor plays spoilsport in the last minute.

The prime positive aspect of the film is its casting – Balaji shines as the middle-class youngster who has been mired in various woes. His chemistry with other artists works big time and his comic timing and a few one-liners bring the house down. Nayanthara plays the titular role effortlessly. Her terrific screen presence is the USP of the film, and the scenes which feature her stand out. Fans would badly miss watching it on the big screen. As far as performance is concerned, Urvashi steals the show. From the first scene in which she engages in a conversation with the family of a girl with whom Balaji had a marriage proposal to the climax scene in which she talks to her husband, she enthralls the viewers throughout the movie. Ajay Ghosh was okayish as the fake Baba while Moulee and others were apt in their roles.
The first half of the film is a laugh riot with thoroughly engaging scenes and performances from all artists, but the second half fell flat at a few instances. The climax which had confrontation between saami and saamiyar lacked punch and the dialogues were quite predictable. The title card gave credit to a few films for inspiration, but unfortunately some of the scenes in the second half involving the fake godman reminded of popular sequences from those movies. Having said that the film delivers the message it intends to, in an effective way, by taking potshots at superficial belief systems, political parties which resorts to divisive politics, and so on.

Ammoru Talli is a film that has created a good buzz in the recent past. Starring Nayanthara and RJ Balaji, this film is out on Disney Hotstar. Let’s now see how it is.

Story
Ramaswamy(RJ Balaji) is a man who has to deal with many family problems after his father leaves his family. He is a small-time reporter who is working on a case related to a scam that is being done by Bhagavathi Baba(Ajay Ghosh). This is the time, his family deity, Ammoru Talli(Nayanthara) appears before Ramaswamy and changes his life. Who is this Ammoru Thalli? What changes did she bring to Ramaswamy’s life? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points
Nayanthara is the heart and soul of the film. She plays the goddess Ammoru Thalli and perfectly suits the character. Nayan is regal and brings a good effect on the film. Her costumes and makeup have done so well.

A seasoned actress, Urvashi also does well in his role and provides some comedy relief. RJ Balaji is amazing as a young reporter. All his scenes with Nayanthara have been executed well. The manner in which fake Baba’s are ruling the roost in India has been exposed well.

A few satires dealing with the way babas even run political parties were also neatly addressed. Ajay Ghosh is loud but has done well as Bhagavathi Baba. Nayanthara’s comedy timing has also been generated well.

Minus Points

Some scenes in the film are heavily inspired by movies like Oh My God, and PK. The religious thread and how fake babas operate has been showcased in many films already.

The film starts on a good note as RJ establishes the story quite well. The entry of Nayan and how she gets involved in the plot is also neat. But from there are many logics which go for a toss in the second half.

The interview between RJ Balaji and Ajay Ghosh looks a bit over the top. Also, there are some comedy scenes in the second half that do not create any effect and look forced.

Technical Aspects –

The background score of the film is pretty good and the tunes used for the climax is also decent. VFX done for the goddess setup is also good. Production values are superb and the Telugu dubbing is also pretty good. The dialogues and those which are written as satires for fake babas work well.

Coming to the director RJ Balaji, he has done a passable job. He took a story that is quite routine and added comedy to it. But in this, he missed the essence in the second half.

Verdict

On the whole, Ammoru Talli is a satire on how fake godmen operate in the country. The story is quite routine by actor and director RJ Balaji adds decent humor in the film and makes it interesting. The second half goes down a bit but Nayan’s screen presence makes this film a passable watch this Diwali weekend.

Storyline:
In the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle’s fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter and a long-forgotten invention to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within. Last year, and for more than four decades before that, if you’d said the words “Black Christmas movie,” a lot of people’s minds would have gone straight to Bob Clark’s sorority-house slasher flick “Black Christmas” — that’s how few holiday films Hollywood has made for and featuring African Americans. Writer-director David E. Talbert started to fix that problem with his more inclusive 2016 comedy “Almost Christmas,” but the real breakthrough is “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” an ambitious Yuletide tuner the prolific stage and screen creator has had up his sleeve for decades. Now, Netflix has made Talbert’s musical a reality — the latest bauble in the streamer’s ever-expanding Christmas-movie catalog — and though the film foregrounds Black actors in nearly all its lead live-action roles, the audience needn’t be limited to one race. Talbert has crafted an upbeat eyeful, set in a Dickensian toy store where steampunk gizmos with shiny brass gears whistle and whirl and all but overwhelm the senses, to say nothing of the pinwheel pleasures of all those splendid, spinning faux-Victorian costumes.

His vision is big, but the execution clunky and crowded with detail, such that it all plays like a regional-theater production of “The Wiz” staged within the walls of “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.” Talbert is positively unabashed about “Jingle Jangle’s” too-muchness, as if trying to make up for a century of underrepresentation by stuffing everything he can into two hours’ worth of Christmas pageantry. The filmmaker’s inspiration looks to be the deliberately garish, superficially British-ish big-studio musicals of the 1960s — movies like “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “Oliver!” in which grinning ensembles sang and danced their way about the backlot.

The movie begins, in its Disney-esque way, with sitcom mom Phylicia Rashad (the erstwhile Clair Huxtable, rising above the wreckage of the now-canceled “Cosby Show”) opening a gilded storybook, from whose pages computer-animated automatons pantomime the film’s expository passages (visually, the most impressive segments). What follows, we’re told, is “The Invention of Jeronicus Jangle” — the tale of how a talented tinkerer (played by Forest Whitaker for most of the movie) had his life’s work stolen from him, fell into ruin and eventually learned to believe again, thanks to the positivity of his granddaughter, Journey (Madalen Mills).

As inventors go, Jeronicus is so gifted that this Christmas movie has no need for Santa Claus. It boasts a workshop every bit as exciting as the apocryphal North Pole, except that here, jauntily dressed Black customers spring into movement at the first blasts of the opening song, “This Day.” Right off the top, Jeronicus unveils his most intricate creation, an astoundingly expressive robot with a mind of its own, Don Juan Diego (voiced by pop star Ricky Martin, whose lone song sounds like a watered-down version of scheming “The Lion King” anthem “Be Prepared”).
The instant Jeronicus leaves the room, Don Juan sets about “seducing” his disgruntled apprentice, Gustafson (Miles Barrow and then later, Keegan-Michael Key), into stealing his master’s plans and manufacturing those ideas as his own. Thus, the inventor’s career is nearly ruined, while his protégé goes on to become the most celebrated toymaker in the land — an injustice that spans nearly three decades and destroys the Jangle family in the process. His daughter Jessica (Anika Noni Rose) grows estranged, and Jeronicus becomes remote and curmudgeonly. Whitaker is well-suited to this tragic transformation, which stands in stark contrast with his granddaughter Journey’s positivity.

As the eager-to-reconnect young woman, Mills is a little charmer, and the movie picks up steam when she enters the picture. Like her mother, Journey shares Jeronicus’ smarts, sketching math equations in midair and figuring out how to operate the robot that could be Grandpa’s big comeback, the big-eyed Benny 3000 — a throwback to various ’80s-movie companions, from “E.T.” to “Short Circuit,” although CG is no substitute for the magic of practical effects. It’s great to see Talbert championing STEM achievements among his female characters, and even though the movie itself doesn’t seem to know the first thing about engineering (which is all about design, as far as its creators are concerned), the message comes through loud and clear: Anyone can achieve anything if she puts her mind to it.

That may seem modern, but Talbert goes old-school in the staging, especially where the musical numbers are concerned. (“Dreamgirls” editor Virginia Katz is one of three cutters credited, though this movie is nowhere near as audacious.) From the look of things, the director’s approach relied on play-it-safe coverage: shooting each song from multiple angles and piecing it together in post, as opposed to conceptualizing bold, boundary-pushing montages.

Press notes suggest that Talbert considered making “Jingle Jangle” for the stage. Digital embellishments aside, this fairly conservative production would port over well to a standard proscenium. Familiar choreography features characters stomping up and down stairs, or zipping along sliding ladders, as they sing to camera. A more spirited exception occurs during a boys-against-girls snowball fight, during which Journey and Jeronicus use a little creative physics to outwit each other.

Most of the songs follow a fairly conventional show-tunes model, amped up with hip-hop and Afrobeat elements. The two catchiest numbers — Mills solo “The Square Root of Possible” and John Legend-written “Make It Work” — could fit right in on Broadway. Wouldn’t that be something? In greenlighting a Black Christmas movie, Netflix may have opened the door to so much more.

Warcraft (alternatively known as Warcraft: The Beginning) is a 2016 American action fantasy film directed by Duncan Jones and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones. Based on the video game series of the same name, the film stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, and Daniel Wu. The film portrays the initial encounters between the humans and the orcs and takes place in a variety of locations established in the video game series.

The film was first announced in 2006 as a project partnership between Legendary Pictures and the game’s developer, Blizzard Entertainment.[6] Warcraft premiered in Paris on May 24, 2016, and was released by Universal Pictures in the United States on June 10, 2016.[7] Though it was a financial disappointment at the domestic box office and globally,[8] and the film and script received negative reviews from critics, the film has grossed $439 million worldwide, surpassing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time.

If the trailer of Warcraft gave you the faintest hope that the film will be a welcome break from Hollywood’s usual fare of uninspired screen adaptations of video games, by the climax you’ll know it was all wishful thinking. The over-plotted narrative takes you through the troubled lives of orcs who are forced to wage a war against humans.

The film wastes too much time conjuring up the parallel worlds. There is magic, wizards, spells, majestic birds and mystical places. Director Duncan Jones is every bit sincere, doing his best to find the film an emotional anchor. There is a tender story between an orc and his pregnant wife right at the beginning which starts off this tale on a moving note. But the earnestness wears out soon.
Don’t be surprised if its non-human characters steal your heart over the human ones. Orc chieftain Durotan is the most likeable one in the movie. He lives for his honour and doesn’t believe in his clan’s savage ways. There is also a knight who is completely devoted in protecting his kingdom and a friendly wizard who turns evil and must be controlled by a novice. These are interesting subplots that are plagued by melodrama. From father-son ego tussle to mushy orc-human unrequited love story, every trick in the book has been used to evoke tears.
Despite the sincerity, the film suffers from the lack of a solid screenplay, which is silly in parts with a persistent stale feel to it. You wish the writers had invested half as much in the writing as they did in creating good CG visuals. How can you save a story that lacks soul? This dreadfully boring film ends with the hope of a sequel. It’s time to introduce the makers to John Lennon. ‘Make love, not war…’

Do they have what it takes to complete their mission and will they uncover the mysterious truth behind their journey?

I love a bad movie, this is a bad movie, but not the sort to be enjoyed. It has taken elements that are currently popular and shoe horned them in to a movie very poorly. Even a porno version of Game of Thrones or Walking Dead (Series that this is trying to be) would have more story to follow than this.

I was initially hooked in by how awful the first scene was, it’s truly awful but is funny. Slo mo was used on everything, someone had brought a camera that can do 120fps and they were making sure they were going to use it. There is a clip of the guy slipping on a rock in super slow mo only for it to turn out to be nothing… slipping on a rock…. totally pointless. This is how I felt about most of the content of this movie thereafter, it shows us something only for it to be pointless. There was loads of stock footage of bears and wolves in completely different environments adding nothing to the story (if you can call it that), just put in there for the trailer perhaps.

It feels like every part of this film was done on the cheap, like it was some sort of ‘Challenge Anika’ attempt, where they have 24 hours to make a film from start to finish with just the contents from an old garage to use as props and GCSE students to help out.

I did feel very sad at one point upon seeing the old Blue Peter presenter Tim Vincent had lowered himself to acting in the film. Part of me feels he was only brought in to exploit Blue Peter skills to make some of the paper mache props.
The biggest moment and shock in the film was that it’s the first in a trilogy or at least it thinks it is. If they get the funding for another one of these, then everyone should buy themselves a camera with slow-mo functionality and have a go at making a truly terrible movie of their own.
Here’s the thing. The main/lead actors were god awful. No effort put in and sounded/looked as though they were reading the script for the first time there and then! Maybe they were? Clearly this was a money grab which is a shame because maybe this film could have been something had they put the effort, time but most importantly passion in. A fellow reviewer mentions the “bar scene”. Yes, it was pretty awful but I thought the supporting artists (or extras) did a better job than the main cast. In fact, in all the scenes the extras did better. That’s saying something. The main actors should be embarrassed of their panto- style acting. Why they were cast, who knows?! The camera work was shoddy and this whole film is offensive to indie film and passionate film makers. I’m only giving it a 4 because I know some (not all) of the extras actually put the work in and cared about the film.
This film was bloody awful. There’s really no other way to describe it. Just bloody awful and that’s putting it mildly. I mean how does something this amateurish and sad even get funded or distributed? It makes absolutely no sense. None of the actors, if you can call them that, had the talent of your local thespian playhouse. I truly believe someone went to their local bar after work and said “My brother just got this cool new digital camera. Ya’ll wanna make a movie?”. They must have spent the twenty they had for a budget on a twelve pack instead of expenses. Save your money, time or bandwidth and watch Conan the Barbarian for the fiftieth time instead. Trust me, you’ll be much more entertained and satisfied.
Unfortunately the production values of this overshadow any redeeming features of the plot (so much so that I couldn’t find any). Most of the acting was wooden, with the exception of one or two of the main characters. Some of the effects were moderately good (notably the blood splatters), but the CGI dragon was not-so. The sound editor ought to be shot, with most of the dialogue being drowned out by the music or, when there is no music, too quiet to hear. When there is music, most of it is fitting – except for in the tavern, when some sort of silly pop ballad played (which, one would assume was being played by the bard at the inn, on his modern guitar). I also can’t believe they were that worried about marking their furniture that they had green baize on the bottom of some of the cups. Fortunately, Cosmeston medieval village pulled off the best and most authentic bits of the setting, but sadly the castle that features towards the end has far too many modern fittings, lighting, cables and other acoutrements to make me take it seriously, at which point I just started laughing about how little attention to detail there was and the fact that the gardens were floodlit, and the corridors contained a gazillion uplighters. The odd use of some sort of Chinese spear by someone in western gear also stuck out as particularly jarring!

Review:
First things first. I hope the team enjoyed the production. Unfortunately the film uses almost every bad cliché you can imagine. The mask and special effects are poor. That may have been due to the budget, but it would have been nice if the zombies hadn’t all looked like tired panda bears.

The story isn’t very complicated, with a little more effort they could have made it more interesting.

What bothered me most about this movie, though, was the underground choreography of the fights. It’s so bad that you want to shout to the makers: Guys, watch some sword fights on Youtube, you can learn a lot in the process. Or better yet, go to some live role-playing games and you’ll get to see some good masks too.

I showed the film to my son (11) to give him a feel for how depressingly badly planned fights can look. The actors try hard, but unfortunately they don’t get beyond that. It may have been the script, but most of the time they just seem confused.

Clearly a lot of time and effort went into this movie and it’s nicely acted ( I think the script sometimes makes the actors seem more wooden than they actually are ) and generally well shot. Sound is good too.The pace is so slow. The story is simple. Pick up the pace though The fight scenes are ridiculously choreographed ( more of a dance than a fight ) with the actors stood waiting for their turn to fight it looks stupid.

VFX is ropey and please get someone new to sort out your Greenscreen work as you can see an edge around all the greenscreen clips. ( either that or you’ve tried to fake a depth of field and it hasn’t worked and it looks like badly cut out greenscreen )

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. Taking into account the film was shot in 2015, I felt it was enjoyable from start to finish. The characters are likeable and the film is shot beautifully. My only note is some of the special effects are a little low budget. Overall a great film that sucks you into a new world, well done to the makers and cast!

The Priest names the child Panchakshari. Since she was born on a day and time considered auspicious to Goddess Durga, she is treated as a divine personality by the people of her village. She grows up to be revered by the villagers and is subsequently married to an orphan, Sriram/Rajesh Sharma. After some time the couple becomes parents to a baby girl and name her Reshmi. During the holy festival of Bonalu, Panchakshari is possessed by Goddess Durga, who predicts that Panchakshari is going to die suddenly. The prophecy comes true as Panchakshari is immediately engulfed by fire, shattering the villagers and rendering Reshmi unconscious.

While in the city, Sriram comes across Panchakshri’s look-alike, Honey, an ultra modern city girl from a rich family. He follows her around, videotaping her movements, which earns the dislike of Honey. But she understands the truth behind his act when Sriram tells her about Panchakshari. To make Reshmi gain her consciousness back, Sriram brings Honey to her. Honey visits the village, where she comes to know that she and Panchakshari are actually cousins.

Later on, it is revealed that Panchakshari was killed in order to close and make people stay away from the temple to execute the villain’s plan of digging the treasure. Honey goes to the Temple where Panchakshari died. Honey is possessed by Panchakshari, who scares the diggers away and makes the villain’s wife paralysed. The villain’s team try to get Panchakshari’s spirit out of Honey’s body with the help of an evil tantric sadhu, but they fail to do so. They also terrorise the villagers who pray to Goddess Durga to save them. Eventually the Goddess Herself comes into Panchakshari and kills the villain. The villagers rush to the spot to get the blessings of the Great Goddess. As she blesses everyone, she leaves the body of Panchakshari. And later, Panchakshari is out of Honey’s body and her soul finally finds peace.

Synopsis:
Reigning star Anushka tries to salvage two poorly etched roles but her efforts could go in vain due to a shabbily-penned screenplay. Unfortunately, the much-hyped role of Panchakshari fails to create ripples and goes down without a whimper. Although director Samudra wanted to rehash Arundhati, he makes a mockery of it marring its chances at the BO. Apart from an insipid plot of killing a ‘blessed girl’ to unearthing treasure beneath a temple, the disjointed screenplay test audience nerves.
Movie Review: Barring the last gripping 10 minutes, the socio-fantasy has nothing much to offer. Even the comedy track of Brahmanandam (parody on Magadheera) is jaded and uninspiring. Undoubtedly, reigning star Anushka should have chosen a much better script to play an author-backed role, since this lackluster theme fails to do justice to her talent or position.
Anuskha is a fashion designer and likes to spend time with friends. Apparently, to defer her marriage, she even claims to be in love with a guy and shows a picture of a stranger to her family.Meanwhile, she comes across a young lad (Vijay Samrat) and admires his tactics to impress her, but is shocked to know that there is another girl, who looks exactly like her.
Anushka impresses as a bubbly fashion designer but in the elderly role, she has nothing much to do except to look simple and straight. Pradeep Rawat as a ruthless baddy is good whereas Vijay Samrat, Chandra Mohan, Ali, are just fine.
